California Community College Facts

  • More than half (55 percent) of CSU graduates and more than one-quarter (28 percent) of UC graduates began their college careers at a community college. Upon transferring to either four-year institution, these students obtain GPAs equal to or better than students who attended CSU or UC schools for the duration.
  • California community colleges have credentialed 80 percent of firefighters, law enforcement officers, and EMTs; 39 colleges administer Police Officers Standards and Training (POST) academies and 64 colleges have fire-technology programs for training firefighters.
